Environment of Care Standard 1.10: The organization manages safety risks.

Element of Performance 1: Safety Coordinator

The organization identifies a person/s as designated by leadership to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of safety management activities.

Safety Coordinator Qualifications

Facility has Safety Coordinator and Safety Committee with representation from most departments.

Safety Coordinator reports directly to Leadership level as per hospital organization chart.

Safety Coordinator has training in relevant issues such as OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations and compliance.

Safety Coordinator has certification in hazardous materials management (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), industrial hygiene (CIH) or healthcare environmental manager (HEM).  

Safety Coordinator has resources and authority to implement safety plans and activities.  

Safety coordinator has experience in waste minimization and pollution prevention as means to improve facility safety.

Safety Coordinator Initiatives

Tracer Safety coordinator can discuss initiatives implemented to minimize hazardous materials and waste and to prevent pollution.
