Environment of Care Standard 1.10:  The hospital manages safety risks.

Element of Performance 2:   Safety Coordinator

The hospital identifies a person/s as designated by leadership to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of safety management activities.

The Safety Coordinator reports directly to Leadership level, as reflected by the facility's organization chart.
The Safety Coordinator has training in relevant issues, such as compliance with the regulations of:
  • OSHA

  • hazardous materials management (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager)
  • industrial hygiene (CIH)
  • healthcare environmental manager (HEM)
The Safety Coordinator has resources and authority to implement safety plans and activities.

The Safety Coordinator has experience in waste minimization and pollution prevention as means to improve facility safety.
The Safety Coordinator can discuss initiatives implemented to minimize hazardous materials and waste and to prevent pollution.
